Product management for Blue Tees' first launch monitor, a Doppler radar device tracking 20+ ball and club metrics. Owned the requirements, ran the competitive analysis, commissioned an independent accuracy study, and shipped firmware through the product's first year.

The problem

Affordable launch monitors gave up either the accuracy golfers would rely on or the software around the hardware. A connected experience meant jumping several price tiers.

What I did

  • Owned the requirements. Defined the 20+ ball and club metrics the device had to measure and how it connects to the rest of the Blue Tees ecosystem.
  • Ran the competitive analysis to place the feature set and price against the category’s established players.
  • Commissioned an independent accuracy study. Thousands of shots from professional and amateur golfers, each measured simultaneously by Rainmaker and by a camera-based reference system of the $10,000-plus class.
  • Designed that study to be defensible. Same shots, same moment, both skill groups, run externally rather than in-house. A device can hold up at tour swing speeds and fail at amateur ones, so a claim proven on one group proves nothing about the other.
  • Owned the firmware roadmap after launch, prioritising spin tracking alongside battery and display fixes.

Results

  • Ball speed and club speed tracked the reference device closely. Carry distance and shot direction showed strong agreement.
  • Every accuracy claim in marketing traces back to the study, which was re-run against the shipped product rather than treated as a one-off.
  • The release, with the Launch app, drove the highest revenue month in company history.

Outcome: accuracy claims that trace back to the study, a baseline later firmware can be measured against, and validation both before and after launch.
