TrackMan B1 License System

Built a license management system on top of TrackMan's existing internal tooling, giving the business full internal control over how B1 units are provisioned, renewed and expired.

Context

B1 units were sold and renewed through the commercial stack: CRM for the customer relationship, Navision for the financials. But there was no single place that decided what a given unit was allowed to do. Entitlements drifted from contracts, expirations went unnoticed, and nobody had reliable internal control over usage in the field.

Approach

Rather than introduce a new system, I designed the license layer to sit between the tools the business already ran on.

Licenses and license types as first-class objects. A License Editor became the single source of truth, synchronised against CRM and Navision so the commercial record and the technical entitlement could not diverge.

A clean handoff to the device. The BBP app resolves a unit’s licenses into the specific session types it can run, so entitlement changes take effect without touching the hardware.

Visibility as part of the product. A usage dashboard exposed sessions, pitches and hits tracked per organization, plus days since last use. That turned renewal conversations into data-backed ones.

I led the developer team through the build, defined the requirements, and sequenced delivery so the commercial team could adopt the new flow without a hard cutover.

Outcome

  • License renewal rates improved by 73%. Subscriptions that would have lapsed unnoticed were caught while there was still time to act on them.
  • Full internal control over B1 unit usage and entitlements.
  • 21% growth in recurring revenue over the same period.
